MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate and former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar urged the new graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) to keep in their hearts and mind the core values of their alma mater in order to meet the public service expectations of the people.

Eleazar, who served in the police service for more than 30 years and retired as the Chief PNP, also told the PNPA graduates that the trust and confidence of the people they serve are what really matters and are the true gauges of their performance.

“Sa PNP man kayo pumasok o sa BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) o sa BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection),  iisa ang sukatan ng inyong performance at ito ang tiwala at respeto ng taumbayan,” said Eleazar.

“Just stick to the core values of the PNPA and I’m sure hindi kayo maliligaw ng landas,” he stressed.

A total of 229 PNPA cadets graduated on Thursday, April 21, in a ceremony graced by President Rodrigo Duterte at the PNP Academy in Silang, Cavite.

A total of 206 of the graduates chose to enter the PNP while 12 of them decided to join the Bureau of Fire Protection, while 11 chose the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Eleazar also lauded the female graduates of the “ALAB-KALIS” Class of 2022, especially after learning that six of them landed in the Top 10 of the graduating class.

“This is another proof na pagdating sa galing, hindi pahuhuli ang ating mga kababaihan. Saludo ako sa inyo,” said Eleazar.

For the 206 PNPA cadets who will join the PNP, Eleazar reminded them of the aggressive reforms and initiatives to professionalize the police force and weed out the scalawags who have been tainting the integrity of the police organization.

“Maraming pagsubok at temptation kayong madadaanan at marami din kayong kamalain na makikita along the way. These will all serve as a test of your character and what you have learned from the Academy,” said Eleazar.

“As a former Chief PNP, ang aking maipapayo ay manindigan kayo para sa tama at ipaglaban na ituwid ang mga mali. The PNP will be your family, kaya mahalin ninyo ang ating organisasyon at protektahan laban sa sinuman na sisira dito,” he stressed.

Eleazar was known to be a strict disciplinarian and even initiated aggressive reforms in the PNP to fight corruption and the “padrino” (patronage) system, including the QR Code system which he implemented to address the culture of corruption and palakasan in the PNP recruitment system.

He also initiated reforms to regain the trust and confidence of the public through his Intensified Cleanliness Policy.
