MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) bared on Wednesday the topics for the presidential and vice-presidential town hall debates to be organized by the poll body.
The presidential town hall debate will be on April 24 while the vice-presidential town hall debate will be on April 23.
According to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia, the vice-presidential town hall debates will tackle social sector issues such as underpinning the plight of vulnerable sectors — including the indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities — workforce, farmers, overseas Filipino workers, women, and the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) community.
Meanwhile, electoral reforms, education, and economic infrastructure will be the topics that will be tackled in the presidential town hall debates.
Earlier, the Comelec teamed up with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) for the state university’s participation in the event.
The PLM will serve as the academe’s sectoral representative in the debates.
Voters will cast their votes in the national and local elections on May 9.
