CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — With only 21 days remaining before the national elections, the tandem of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio campaigned in Cebu — the most vote-rich province in the country.

Marcos lost in the province in his vice presidential bid in the 2016 elections. This time he’s campaigning here for his presidential bid with the backing of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and several mayors and other local officials.

Just a week before the tandem’s campaign here, the Garcia-led One Cebu, the largest local party in the province, made official its support for the Marcos and Duterte.

“From what I can see, here in Cebu there’s no need to explain what unity means because Cebu is united behind the UniTeam tandem of Marcos-Duterte,” Marcos said, speaking in Filipino, in his speech.

“Here in Cebu, we see a beautiful example of the power of the message of unity. That’s because here in Cebu, a group was formed to combine all the forces of the Cebuanos so that the province of Cebu will not be divided,” he added.

A number of local officials have also expressed support for Marcos.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he was “certain” that Marcos would win not only in his city but in the entire province.

Cebu — including its independent cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu — is the most vote-rich province in the country with over 3.2 million registered voters for the upcoming polls, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
