MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Safety Concerns has approved over 2,000 poll gun ban exemption applications.
In the data issued by the office of Comelec Commissioner Socorro Inting on Monday, some 2,160 gun ban exemption applications were approved as of April 13.
Meanwhile, 906 applications were denied by the panel.
Gun ban exemption applications that are pending for evaluation are at 1,315.
Inting resigned as the panel chair on April 13 “in protest” of the amendments to the gun ban exemptions.
Commissioner Aimee Ferolino serves as the acting chair of the committee.
The election gun ban is effective from January 9 to June 8.
