Alleged NPA rebel dies, 2 others hurt in clash with military in Negros Oriental

An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed while two other rebels were wounded in an encounter with government troops at the Sibulan municipality in Negros Oriental on Thursday, the military reported.

MANILA, Philippines—An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed while two other rebels were wounded in an encounter with government troops at the Sibulan municipality in Negros Oriental on Thursday, the military reported.

In a statement, the Philippine Army (PA) said government forces figured in a 15-minute firefight against 12 communist armed rebels at Barangay Enrique Villanueva at 8 a.m.

The government troops later recovered a body near the encounter site.

“At around 2 p.m., operating troops discovered a cadaver near the creek at the said place. The still unidentified cadaver is wearing a green NPA uniform and boots,” the military said of the unidentified rebel.

“Based on information received, another two members of NPA were wounded in the encounter based on the blood stain seen in the withdrawal route,” they added.

Also recovered from the encounter site were five pieces of high-powered guns and improvised explosive devices.
