MANILA, Philippines — Taguig opened its first community center on Wednesday as part of its promise to create safe spaces for its residents, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The multi-level Rockyside Community Center — the first of 19 such centers planned to be built — is in Barangay Bagumbayan.

“These infrastructure projects are proof that despite the pandemic, Taguig continues to log successes, which benefit our constituents in the short and the long run,” Mayor Lino Cayetano said in a statement.

Rockyside has a common area and a lounge that may be used for meetings and other group activities.

The center will also serve as a Government Satellite Office where city services such as the issuance of burial and financial assistance may be processed.

It also has a Child Development Center that can serve as a daycare center.

There are facilities for basketball, volleyball, Zumba, and yoga.

To ensure security, police officers and barangay tanods will be posted at the center, Cayetano said.
