LOOK: Robredo visits Rolly-battered Catanduanes, gives aid

Vice President Leni Robredo visits the province of Catanduanes on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, as her office continues its relief efforts for areas affected by Super Typhoon Rolly in the Bicol Region. Joined by Gov. Joseph Cua and Rep. Hector Sanchez, VP Leni went to the capital city of Virac and the neighboring town of Bato, which were among the areas devastated by the typhoon. She met some of the residents in Brgy. Batalay, where many houses were damaged. The visit was also part of the Vice President’s response to many calls for help that her office has been receiving from those who have been unable to reach their family members in Catanduanes, where there is still no mobile signal. LIGAO CITY––Catanduanes Gov. Joseph “Boboy” Cua said Tuesday that he supports the presidential bid of fellow Bicolano Vice President Leni Robredo.

Cua told the Inquirer in a phone interview said he would endorse Robredo during her visit Tuesday afternoon to the island province.

“We will endorse VP Leni as president,” Cua told the Inquirer. But Cua did not mention his preference for vice president in the May polls.

He said his brother San Andres Mayor Peter “Bosste” Cua, who is vying for vice governor, and Catanduanes Rep. Hector Sanchez would also endorse Robredo’s candidacy.

“Our support is for VP Leni alone, a fellow Bicolano. The issue about meeting with BBM (presidential aspirant former Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.), along with Chavit Singson and other governors in Manila, was just accidental,” he stressed.

He was referring to the stir that the photos of him and two Bicol governors—Masbate’s Antonio Kho and Camarines Norte’s Edgar Tallado—seemingly endorsing presidential aspirant Marcos Jr., went viral.

Cua had earlier clarified in an interview with Radyo Natin Virac that he just happened to be in the meeting.

He said from the start, he had been funding all the campaign materials of Robredo in Catanduanes, and different organizations, particularly those of the Catanduanon Leni Movement, would support Robredo’s candidacy 100 percent.
