VP Robredo hails Filipinos’ bravery amidst crisis on Araw ng Kagitingan

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo  hailed the Filipino people’s bravery in the midst of crisis as the nation marked Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on Saturday.

“Kaisa ako ng Sambayanang Pilipino sa pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Kagitingan,” Robredo said in her message.

(I am one with the Filipino people in commemorating the Day of Valor.)

“Ginugunita at binibigyang-pugay natin ang mga Pilipinong nagpakita ng tapang sa panahon ng kagipitan—mga humarap sa malaki at malakas na kalaban, pumalag, at napilitang magbaba ng armas ngunit di kailanman binitawan ang pag-asa: Na sa kabila ng kadiliman, may liwanag na nag-aabang. Kailangan lang magsikap at magtiwala,” she added.

(We remember and honor the Filipinos who showed bravery in the midst of crisis—those who faced and resisted greater opponents and were forced to lay down their firearms but never gave up hope that despite the darkness, a glimmer of hope awaits.  We just need to work hard and believe.)

The Vice President also expressed hope that the truth about the country’s history will continue to guide Filipinos.

“Nawa’y patuloy na tanglawan ng katotohanan ng kasaysayan ang landas ng ating bansa. Isang mapagnilay na Araw ng Kagitingan sa lahat,” she said.
