Indian, wife hurt in Maguindanao gun attack; Korean slain in South Cotabato

DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao — An Indian national and his Maguindanaoan wife were injured in a shooting incident in Maguindanao on Sunday, April 3, a day after a Korean national was killed in a gun attack in South Cotabato.

Andikkadan Kushi Wais, 36, and his wife Sheryhan Usman Langui, 23, were both injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them on Sunday night in Barangay Semba here.

Col. Jibin Bongcayao, Maguindanao police director, said the couple were on board a vehicle driven by Sri Lankan Mohamed Sideek Rifard, a family friend, when waylaid by unidentified suspects armed with cal. 45 pistols.

Rifard, who was unharmed, managed to drive his vehicle quick, leaving behind the attackers, as he proceeded to a hospital in Cotabato City.

The victims were residents of Barangay Tamontaka. The Indian national and his Sri Lankan friend are engaged in a money-lending business here.

In Polomolok, South Cotabato, a Korean national was killed in an ambush on Saturday by still unidentified gunmen in Barangay Cannery, police said.

Lt. Col. Verlin Pampolina, Polomolok town police chief, said Jung Jang, 45, a resident of Barangay Cannery site, was driving his vehicle on his way home when gunmen ambushed him at past 2 a.m. near the Barangay Hall.

“The victim died on the spot due to gunshot wounds in the head,” Pampolina said. “We are still determining the motive of the attack.” Police found seven empty shells of a 9 mm pistol from the site. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
