Pagasa: LPA off enters PAR; isolated rain showers expected

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored by the state weather bureau has entered the Philippine area of responsibility early Monday morning.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the LPA entered the country’s territory Monday, 2 a.m.

As of 3 a.m., it was located 970 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

“Ang low pressure area ay pumasok na po sa PAR o Philippine area of Rresponsibility kaninang alas-dos ng madaling araw,” said Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.

(The low pressure area has entered the PAR or Philippine area of responsibility at 2 a.m.)

“Itong low pressure area ay inaasahang kikilos pakanluran o papalapit sa Visayas at Mindanao… Kasalukuyan, mababa ang tsansa maging bagyo ang low pressure area,” he added.

(This low pressure area is expected to move westward or towards Visayas and Mindanao… Currently, it has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.)

 Monday forecast

Meanwhile, the shear line and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will cause scattered rain showers in northern Luzon, parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

“Dahil sa epekto ng shear line, magiging maulap na kalangitan na may mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at thunderstorm sa Cagayan Valley, Apayao, at Ilocos Norte,” Aurelio said.

(Because of the shear line’s effect, it will be cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.)

“Dahil sa epekto ng ITCZ, magiging maulap ang kalangitan na may mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at thunderstorm sa Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, at Northern Mindanao,” he went on.

(Because of the ITCZ’s effect, it will be cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.)

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, will have fair weather with possible isolated rain showers.

Gale warning

Because of strong winds coming from the northeast, a gale warning was raised over the seaboards of the following areas:

-Batanes

-Ilocos Norte

-Ilocos Sur

-Cagayan

-La Union

-Pangasinan

“Ang mga baybayin dagat sa mga lugar na ito ay magiging maalon hanggang sa napakaalon. Inyong makikita ang taas ng alon ay maaaring umabot hanggang sa limang metro,” said Aurelio.

(Sea conditions will be in a moderate to rough. Waves may reach up to five meters.)

“Kaya paalala po sa ating mga kababayan: huwag po munang pumalaot sa mga lugar na ito,” he warned.
