MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Loren Legarda seeks to provide better employment and livelihood opportunities for Lagunenses to improve their socio-economic conditions.

During the proclamation rally of PDP LABAN in Biñan Laguna on Saturday, Legarda cited that once re-elected, she will continue to help sustain the province’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic made the last two years especially challenging but we Filipinos remained undaunted. We are known to bounce back from adversities. No matter how hard it is, bumabangon tayong muli—para sa ating pamilya, para sa ating sarili,” Legarda said.

“As I aspire to return to the Senate, I hope that I can do more for you, such as providing you better and more prospects for livelihood, especially those who lost their jobs and sources of income due to COVID-19,” She added.

The three-term Senator also promised that she will bring livelihood programs currently implemented by relevant government agencies closer to Lagunenses to help them recover and be more financially stable.

Legarda has likewise shared the programs she provided for Lagunenses during her two decades in public service. Including the allocation of funds for the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) TulongPanghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) in various cities and municipalities in Laguna such as Biñan, Sta. Cruz, and Calamba, among others.

She also provided funds for the same program in some areas of Laguna that were affected by Enhanced Community Quarantine, such as Alaminos, Los Baños, Pakil, and Siniloan.

The Antique Congresswoman also funded the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) for Barangay Kay-Anlog, Calamba City, to use income-generating activities in low-income households.

For the residents’ ease of mobility and the province’s economic activities, Legarda allocated funds for the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and improvement of national roads in Laguna, such as the Calamba-Sta.Cruz-Famy Jct. Road; Pila-Poblacion Road; Calamba-Sta. Cruz-Famy Jct. Road; and Rizal Bdry.-Famy-Quezon Bdry Road. She also allotted funds for the construction of slope protection in Calamba City.

These included the development of all government-owned properties and sites within the heritage zone (Casa Real/DepEd Library Hub, Bureau of Fire, Plaza Circle fence, Rizal Shrine, plaza fountain, and the colonial lamp posts), among others.

“As I pray for a better future for the Filipino people, I enjoin everyone to work together in dealing with the tremendous challenges we now face, as well as those that have yet to come. We are strong and resilient people. Let’s keep our sight on one objective—a Better Philippines for all,” Legarda said.
