Legarda promises continued livelihood assistance to Quezon Province

MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Loren Legarda vowed to continue supporting the provision of economic and social service programs to Quezon Province, especially in times of recovery from the pandemic.
“What’s more important for us is to move forward even amid a pandemic. Sa loob ng dalawang taong pandemya, marami ang naghirap at nawalan ng trabaho at pagkakakitaan. Kaya naman kailangan po nating tulungan ang ating mga kababayan para sabay-sabay tayong makausad at makabangon sa krisis na ating pinagdadaanan,” Legarda said in a statement.
During UniTeam’s rally in the province Wednesday, Legarda thanked Quezon voters for their continued support.
“In all my political bids since 1998, when I was young then and relatively new in politics, ang mga taga-Quezon Province ay hindi nangiming suportahan ako sa desisyon kong paglingkuran ang mamamayang Pilipino,” she said. “I am so grateful to all of you kaya naman siniguro kong hindi mapag-iiwanan ang probinsya ng mga programa ng pamahalaan.”
The former three-term senator previously pushed the foundation of several economic and livelihood assistance programs in Quezon province.
She allocated DOLE Tulong Panghanapbuhay Sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Worker (TUPAD) funding for the provincial government of Quezon, for each of the four legislative districts and the local government units of Lucena City, Gumaca, and Panukulan.
Legarda has likewise pushed for budget allocation for Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP), TESDA Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), and DOLE Government Internship Program (GIP) in Alabat, Atimonan, Calauag, Guinayangan, Gumaca, among others.

She then allotted funds for constructing Academic Buildings at Southern Luzon State University in Lucban, Infanta, and Polillo.
The Antique Lone District Representative also sponsored additional funding support for the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to provide necessary aid for the fisherfolk in Atimonan, Quezon.
Moreover, Legarda believed that infrastructure is critical to economic growth and development. Therefore, she allocated funds for the concreting of farm-to-market roads in Barangay Ayuti, Lucban, Quezon and constructing a farm-to-market road in San Narciso, Quezon.
To provide quality healthcare, Legarda also allocated funds to improve the Sampaloc Medicare Community Hospital and provision of medical equipment.
Through Legarda’s initiative, marginalized and vulnerable/disadvantaged residents of the province were also provided access to the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) allocated to the entire Region 4A. The protective services include psychosocial intervention medical assistance, among others.
“Kung ako ay mamarapatin niyong makabalik sa Senado, patuloy ko pong gagawin ang nararapat – kagaya ng ating ginawa sa loob ng dalawampung taon, hindi lang tayo basta gagawa ng batas. Sisiguraduhin nating mapaglalaanan ng sapat na pondo ang mga batas at programa, at maramdaman mismo ng taumbayan ang positibong epekto ng mga programang ito sa kanilang kabuhayan at kinabukasan,” Legarda said.
