Legarda welcomes hometown support from Antique gov’t
MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Loren Legarda is grateful for the backing she got from the local government leaders of her hometown of Antique as she vowed her continued support to the province.
The House Deputy Speaker and Antique representative thanked the Provincial Government of Antique and the League of Municipalities-Antique for the endorsement supporting her Senate comeback.
Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao cited that thanks to Legarda, Antique has become a well-known province.
The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Antique Chapter, headed by Libertad Mayor Mary Jean Te, considered Legarda the pride of their province.
“I took up the challenge (to be the Representative of the Lone District of Antique in Congress), hindi ko naman akalain na magkaka-pandemya pero napatunayan po nating may pandemya man o wala ‘pag ang lider ay buo ang loob na gustong ibigay ang buong suporta at tulong… hindi malabo ang pag-unlad sa loob ng maiksing panahon lamang,” said Legarda in a statement.
Legarda also relaunched her LOREN (Livelihood Opportunities to Raise Employment Nationwide) sa Barangay campaign to empower barangays amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic recovery.
In her three-year term as Antique Representative, Legarda’s programs and projects benefited thousands of residents from 590 barangays in Antique.
The projects include the provision of cattle, poultry, boats, fishing gears to the establishment of weaving centers, cotton processing centers, bamboo center, brick making facilities, community fish landings; the availment of DOLE TUPAD and Pangkabuhayan, among others.
“Hindi pa po tapos ang aking trabaho, ang ating laban sa climate crisis, ang ating laban mula sa kahirapan at kawalan ng trabaho, at ang ating pagbangon mula sa pandemya,” she said.
“Nagawa nating iangat ang buhay sa Antique, nailapit natin sa tao ang mga benepisyo at programang para sa kanila. Kung nagawa natin sa Antique, magagawa din natin sa bawat probinsya sa bansa.”
