MANILA, Philippines — Disqualified presidential candidate and retired Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr. again got withering mouthfuls from his former superiors, reminding him how a democracy works.
On Wednesday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año followed the lead of Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and denounced Parlade for suggesting in a public gathering that a revolutionary government was the solution to the country’s problems.
Año and Lorenzana, both retired generals themselves, reminded Parlade that, as a career military man, he should keep his oath to uphold the Constitution and be more responsible and circumspect in his public remarks.
Lorenzana on Tuesday advised the public to just ignore Parlade. Last November, Parlade earned Lorenzana’s ire after he claimed that the defense secretary knew that Sen. Christopher Go controlled the decisions of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Lorenzana denied Parlade’s claims.
Parlade, a protege of National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, tried to run for president but was disqualified by the Commission on Elections because it was prohibited to substitute for an independent candidate running under a party.
