SAGAY CITY, Negros Occidental — The family of former Election Commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Thursday declared their support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo, who also got the support of some of the biggest political clans in this sugar-producing province.
The slight drizzle did not dampen the jovial mood of about 8,000 Negrenses as they gave a rousing welcome to the opposition presidential candidate during the mid-morning political rally at the Government Center here.
Wearing a pink collared shirt, Guanzon went to the rally along with her elder sister, retired Bago City Judge Frances Guanzon.
Guanzon, whose vote to disqualify Robredo’s staunch rival, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was rendered moot upon her retirement from the Commission on Elections, reminded her provincemates not to waste their votes in the coming May 9 general elections.

She had insisted that Marcos should be barred from seeking public office since he was convicted for tax evasion.
“Will you vote for a thief? Will you vote for a liar? Will you vote for a tax evader?” Guanzon asked the crowd, who answered “no” in unison.

Frances Guanzon said their entire clan was supporting Robredo and her running mate, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, because of the tandem’s platform of good government and track record as public officials.
For the fourth straight day this week, the Team Robredo-Pangilinan had another punishing schedule, attending 10 official engagements in Negros Occidental.
