MANILA, Philippines — Several of the campaign promises made by presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo have already been implemented during her current term, her daughter Aika Robredo pointed out on Wednesday.
“Iyong iba po na nag-a-apply for the position, pinapangako pa lang nila pero si Leni Robredo marami nang nagawa sa Office of the Vice President,” she said during a radio interview on Radyo5’s Sa Totoo Lang program.
(Other candidates applying for the position are making promises, but Leni Robredo has already done a lot in the Office of the Vice President.)
“Kung may access siya sa napakaraming resources pa across government agencies parang ang sarap isipin kung gaano pa lalaki ‘yung mga programang nasimulan na niya,” she added.
(If she had access to more resources across government agencies, you can just imagine the impact of bigger programs she would have initiated.)
For clean and honest government
When she was asked why voters should elect her mother as nation’s next president, Aika claimed that her mother offers a clean and honest government.
“Tatlong bagay, una iyong pagkumbinse po na sa kanya iyong uri ng pamahalaan na nire-represent nya ay isang sang uri ng gobyerno na aangat ang buhay ng lahat,” she explained.
(Three things: first, we should convince people that her brand of government represents a government where the people’s lives would improve.)
“Hindi magnanakaw, hindi ka lolokohin, ibibigay iyong karapat-dapat para sa ating mga kababayan, na talaga pong magiging tapat sila sa kanilang tungkulin,” she said.
(She is not a thief, she won’t deceive you, and she would provide what the people need and deserve and be a truthful and honest public servant.)
OVP’s activities
The vice president, after being elected 2016, was appointed by President Duterte as head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and later, as co-chairman of the Inter-Agency Committee Against Illegal Drugs.
Her stints, however, were short-lived, as she was removed from office by the current administration, which some observers said was due to her stand against some government policies.
Robredo said her office teamed up with the private sector to initiate programs despite a meager budget budget, which was also on full display during her office’s COVID-19 response.
Track record
The younger Robredo appealed. to still undecided voters to take a closer look at her mother’s candidacy.
“Sa ibang tao pa, do’n po sa mga hindi pa decided, ‘yong request ko lang po na sana maging open-minded tayo at tignan natin ‘yong track record ng mga nag-aapply for the position,” Aika said.
(To undecided voters, my only request is that they be open-minded, check the track record of those applying for the position.)
“Mag-zero in tayo sa kung ano ba ‘yong nagawa na nila bago pa sila pumasok sa pulitika, o ano ba ‘yong ginagawa nila may eleksyon man o wala. Kasi tingin ko po mahalaga ‘yong consistency sa isang lider, na alam po natin na kahit ma-elect siya sa mas mataas na posisyon, kung ano po siya ngayon gano’n pa rin siya pagdating do’n,” she added.
(Let’s-zero in on their accomplishments before they entered politics, or what they have done with or without the elections. Because I think that consistency in being a leader is important.)
