50 inmates hurt in Taguig jail fire
At least 50 inmates were injured when a 25-minute-long fire hit the detention center of Taguig City police station on Friday, on the fourth day of Fire Prevention Month.
Senior Insp. Demetrio Sablan Jr., chief of operations of the Taguig Bureau of Fire Protection, said 27 of the detainees were brought to clinics and hospitals for treatment.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection report, the fire started at 12:10 p.m., reached the first alarm at 12:12 p.m., and was immediately under control after 15 minutes. By 12:35 p.m. the fire was already declared out.
Sablan said they were still investigating how the fire started in the 30-square meter detention cell. —Dexter Cabalza
