The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said a landslide hit the village of Pancho Villa in Sogod town due to heavy rains.
Around 114 cubic kilometers of rocks and soil blocked the highway, the main route to the province.
The DPWH, in its advisory, said a clearing operation was ongoing to remove the rocks and blocks that cascaded down the road.
“The road shall remain temporarily closed until further notice as soil erosion is still active due to the continuous rainfall in the area,” it said.
No one was reported injured due to the landslide.
The DPWH said those who want to travel to Southern Leyte could use the alternative routes: for travelers going to Sogod-Liloan, both in Southern Leyte, take the Tacloban-Baybay-Bato-Bontoc route while motorists bound for Panaon Island and the Pacific towns in Southern Leyte may take the Tacloban – Mahaplag – Baybay – Bato – Bontoc – Sogod – Daang Maharlika – Liloan – San Ricardo road route and Abuyog-Silago road.
Those going to Maasin City or Sogod, Southern Leyte can use the Tacloban-Baybay South road.
