DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is ending a month-long tour / campaign for the May 9 elections here.
Duterte-Carpio is set to culminate her “Mahalin Natin ang Pilipinas Ride” (MNPR) in Davao City on Monday afternoon after visiting Cotabato City.
She began her campaign in Davao City back on February 1.
Over the past month, the vice presidential candidate has been visiting various cities and provinces in the country and meeting with local leaders and residents.
On some days, she is with her running mate, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.—including in the latter’s bailiwick Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
In her return to her own hometown, however, she will not be joined by Marcos, according to a staff of the presidential bet.
INQUIRER.net has reached out to Marcos’ office for further comments but has yet to receive a reply as of posting time.
In 2016, she won by landslide with a lead of around 570,000 votes against independent bet Teodoro Mantilla.
Then Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Duterte-Carpio’s father, also won the presidential race here by over 613,000 votes.
Marcos Jr., meanwhile, lost to former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano in Davao City. Cayetano, who was President Duterte’s running mate, received over 450,000 votes while Marcos received over 122,000 votes.
While Duterte-Carpio is the running mate Marcos, President Duterte still has opted not to endorse any presidential candidate—at least for now.
President Duterte once called Marcos Jr. a “weak leader.”
