MANILA, Philippines — Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim on Wednesday said he has accepted the resignation of two of his subordinate-ministers and their deputies and has reappointed five others.

He recently ordered, through a memorandum, ministers and deputy ministers of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to submit their courtesy resignations in line with a revamp of the regional government.

So far he has accepted two resignations while he has reappointed five others in their posts.

“‘Yung iba is still under process assessment. Ongoing ang aming assessment and evaluation and at the same time ‘yung hiring and rehiring ng mga ministers,” he said in a Laging Handa briefing.

(Others are still under assessment, which is currently ongoing as well as the evaluation. We are also hiring and rehiring our ministers.

He refused to name those whose resignations were accepted.

Ebrahim explained that he asked his subordinates to file their resignations so that the government would be able to have a “very accurate assessment” of how the BARMM ministries had performed.

“Para mayroon kaming free hand in the assessment of the ministries, at the same time, mayroon kaming free hand kung sino gusto namin, kung makikita namin na hindi masyadong nagpe-perform then we can hire or we can replace them,” he said.

(So that we will have a free hand in the assessment of the ministries. At the same time, we have a free hand on who we want to stay, if we see they are not performing well, we can replace them.)

“it is now our third year in the transition authority, and we will have another three years so kailangan within the next three years, makita namin talagang magiging effective ‘yung function ng aming government,” Ebrahim added.

(So it is vital that in the next three years, we can see that our government is functioning effectively.)

The creation of the BARMM government, established only in 2019, is a product of 22 years of peace talks between Malacañang and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The MILF’s central committee is led by Ebrahim.

The BARMM has about 20 ministries and support offices under the office of the regional chief minister.

The BARMM has a charter, Republic Act 11054, whose ratification via a plebiscite in early 2019 replaced the then 29-year Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with a more empowered Bangsamoro regional government.
