Farmer killed in stabbing, hacking incident in Occidental Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN — A 65-year-old farmer died Tuesday morning after he was stabbed and hacked while in a drinking spree on Monday afternoon in San Jose town in Occidental Mindoro province, police said.

Victim Villamor Berdi died while being treated in San Jose District Hospital at 1 a.m., according to Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) police.

A report said Berdi and his 17-year-old son Albert were stabbed and hacked at about 5 p.m. on Monday in Barangay (village) Ilin Proper where they live.

Together with their neighbors, the victims were having a drinking spree when suspects Eduardo Serna and Richard Erandio arrived armed with a bolo and knife. The suspects hacked and stabbed them, inflicting wounds on different parts of their bodies.

“The suspects fled in an unknown direction bringing with them the weapons used in the crime,” said the report.

Albert is still confined and receiving treatment at San Jose District Hospital as of Tuesday.

Police are pursuing suspects who will be facing charges of frustrated homicide and homicide. Their motive for committing the crime is still under investigation.

Brigadier General Sidney Sultan Hernia, Mimaropa police chief, directed an in-depth investigation of the incident.

The incident is the 14th stabbing and hacking incident in Mimaropa, mostly committed in Palawan province, from January 1 to February 14, according to the Philippine National Police Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System.

Out of the incidents, nine had already been solved which corresponds to a 64.29 percent crime solution efficiency rating, said the report.
