Lacson says he respects Remulla’s endorsement of Bongbong Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said he “respects” the decision of Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla to endorse Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. when the latter visited him in the province considered to be the senator’s bailiwick.

“While I respect our governor’s decision to openly support another candidate, I will continue to humbly ask for your help to give me the chance to be of service to our country,” Lacson said in a Twitter post on Saturday.

“Wherever this journey brings me, as its loyal son, I will continue to love and serve our beloved Cavite,” the Cavite-born senator added.

Remulla on Friday formally pledged Cavite’s full support and endorsement of Marcos Jr. and his running mate Sara Duterte-Carpio, along with their senatorial slate, according to their camp.

Marcos Jr. camp also said that Remulla pledged the “800,000 votes” of Cavite residents to the Marcos-Duterte tandem.

The governor is the son of former Cavite Gov. Juanito Remulla, an ally of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

The vote-rich Cavite had 2.15 million registered voters in 2019.

On February 8, Lacson, along with his vice presidential running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto, launched their campaign in Cavite, the former’s home province which delivered more than 800,000 votes for him when he ran for senator in 2016.
