Coast Guard rescues 22 in boat pummeled by strong waves in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY — At least 22 people were rescued from a motor boat that ran aground due to strong waves in waters off Buenavista town, Bohol province on Friday (Feb. 11).

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Western Bohol reported that the boat, MBCA Jess Mark Kurt Marshall, was sailing from the island of Western Cabul-an when it ran into waves as big as buses past 9 a.m.

The passengers, including five children aged 10, 12, 13 and 15, were all residents of Barangay Western Cabul-an Island, Buenavista town.

After receiving distress calls from boat captain Alfredo Tagsip, 77, the PCG substation in Buenavista deployed personnel to the site to help the distressed passengers.

The Coast Guard personnel brought the rescued passengers to Hunan Port, while the ill-fated boat was towed to shore.
