MANILA, Philippines — Five highly urbanized cities (HUCs) in Mindanao are currently at high-risk status for COVID-19, independent analytics group OCTA Research said Thursday.

Data presented by OCTA Research fellow Guido David on Twitter showed that the cities of Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos, and Zamboanga are currently at high risk status among HUCs in Mindanao.

“With the observed downward trends in these cities, we expect most of them to be at moderate risk by next week,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cotabato City and Iligan are currently under moderate risk classification.

Indicators used by OCTA Research are based on US nonprofit COVID Act Now which are different from metrics being used by the Department of Health in identifying risk classifications.

Based on DOH metrics, only Soccsksargen is the region in the country that is still at high-risk status. The rest of the regions are under low to moderate risk.

The DOH reported Wednesday that the country currently has 96,326 active COVID-19 cases, including 3,651 new coronavirus infections.
