MANILA, Philippines — A Norwegian fugitive wanted in his home country for allegedly molesting minors was arrested in Laoag City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Wednesday.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the suspect as 53-year-old Alexander Calapini-Solberg, who was arrested by operatives of the BI fugitive search unit (FSU) on Monday in Barangay 48-A Cabunggaan, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Morente said the Norwegian national was a high-profile fugitive who is wanted in Norway due to a string of sex offense cases that were filed against him in court.
“We are going to deport him for being an undesirable alien. His continued presence in the country poses a serious threat to our Filipino children, any one of whom could be his next victim,” Morente said in a statement.
He explained that the mission order for Solberg’s arrest was sent at the request of Norwegian authorities, which informed the BI that the suspect is already an undocumented alien as his passport was already revoked by the Oslo government.
According to BI-FSU Rendel Ryan Sy, an Interpol Red Notice was also issued to Solsberg in December 2021 based on arrest warrants that were issued against him by Folio Og Norde Ostfold District Court in Norway.
His warrant is based on at least 4 counts of molestation of young children on repeated occasions.
Solsberg is currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
