MANILA, Philippines — An additional 6,835 cases of COVID-19 were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, along with 16,330 new recoveries.
This is the seventh day in a row the Philippines recorded less than 10,000 cases during the latest COVID-19 surge caused by the more transmissible Omicron variant.
This is also the 10th consecutive day the country saw higher daily recoveries than infections starting Feb. 1 amid, however, a lower testing rate.
Meanwhile, the positivity rate is now at 19.1 percent out of the 36,773 tests conducted on Feb. 5, the lowest rate the country has recorded since Jan. 2, and the first time it went below 20 percent since.
Based on the DOH’s report, 98 percent or 6,673 of the new infections were logged within the last 14 days with NCR listed as the top region posting the highest number of new cases at 949 new cases (14 percent) in the recent two weeks, followed by Region 6 with 822 (12 percent) and Region 7 with 624 (9 percent).
With this, total confirmed infections are now at 3,616,387 and recoveries at 3,445,129.
With the higher number of recoveries, active cases have then reduced to 116,720, of which 95.7 percent currently suffer mild or asymptomatic cases; specifically, 103,900 individuals suffer mild cases, 7,806 are asymptomatic, 3,184 moderate, 1,495 severe, and 335 critical.
The DOH said it also recorded the deaths of 12 people, increasing the total COVID-19 death count to 54,538.
The health agency likewise said that 16 duplicates were removed from the total case count, four of which were recoveries.
Moreover, the DOH said that 12 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
