DTI estimates at least 100,000 workers to return to work under Alert Level 2

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Monday estimated that at least 100,000 workers would return to work after Metro Manila and some provinces shifted to a more lenient Alert Level 2.

Since the deescalation of the alert level status, the operating capacity was increased from 30 percent to 50 percent for indoor establishments.

Outdoor establishments, meanwhile, expanded their operating capacity from 50 percent to 70 percent.

“I have to explain also ‘yung (the) operating capacity natin nag-increase (increased) by 20 percent since we have gone to Alert Level 2,” DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“According to DTI estimates, we have around 100 [thousand] to 200,000 jobs na makakabalik (that could return),” she continued.

From February 1 to 15, Alert Level 2 is hoisted over Metro Manila, Batanes, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Biliran, Southern Leyte, and Basilan.
