Sorsogon City councilor bet nabbed for alleged election gun ban violation

LEGAZPI CITY – A candidate for councilor in Sorsogon City, Sorsogon province was arrested for allegedly violating the election gun ban early Friday.

Lt. Col. Virgil Bibat, chief of Sorsogon City police, said in a report that Angeles Laroga Apin, 49, was traveling aboard his motorcycle when he was flagged down at a police checkpoint at Barangay (village) Bulabog in the West District of the said city at 3:10 a.m.

Police said they recovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm with a magazine loaded with 11 bullets and a black sling bag containing 10 live bullets for the same gun from Apin.

The Commission on Elections imposed the gun ban in relation to the upcoming national and local elections.

Investigators said the suspect was brought to the police station and will face corresponding charges.
