PNP logs 52 new COVID-19 cases

PNP logs lowest daily rise since January 3 at 52 new COVID-19 cases

MANILA, Philippines The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday reported an additional 52 COVID-19 cases, its lowest single-day tally since January 3.

Based on the latest PNP bulletin on COVID-19, a total of 48,402 police officers and personnel have contracted the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, since the pandemic hit the country in 2020.

The PNP also reported that active cases stood at 1,355 and that 186 coronavirus patients have recently recovered, raising the number of COVID-19 survivors in the institution to 46,920.

It further said that no new fatality was recorded, thus, its death count stays at 127 as of February 2.

On January 3, the PNP registered eight new COVID-19 cases before it started to surge in the following days due to the threat of the highly-infectious Omicron variant, which was first identified in Botswana and South Africa in November. – Jericho Zafra, trainee
