MANILA, Philippines — A panel of the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday moved to recommend the nomination of a commissioner of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The CA Committee on Constitutional Commissions and Offices approved and recommended the appointment of CSC Commissioner Ryan Alvin Rivera Acosta.
During the hearing, Acosta said he will push for online examinations for CSC examinees to ensure that they will be “protected from transmissible diseases” particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Acosta replaced Leopoldo Valderosa Jr. as commissioner of the CSC. His term will expire on February 2, 2027.

He has also complied with the mandatory documentary requirements of his nomination, the secretary of the panel said.
CA member Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has manifested his full support for the nomination of Acosta.
“His background as Deputy Executive Secretary as provided here, to the rich background of the qualities the government needs to further achieve the vision, mission, and goals required of our most needed resource — the human capital,” dela Rosa said.
“The record submitted to us reveals that the nominee has lived up to the professionalism in the exercise of his functions. But above all is the striking simplicity of lifestyle that he has shown,” the senator added.
Prior to his appointment as CSC commissioner, Acosta served as the Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs in the Office of the President since July 2016.
The panel’s recommendation will be transmitted to the CA plenary for either adoption or rejection.
