MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rain will continue to prevail over Eastern Luzon and the Bicol Region, as well as in Eastern Visayas and the entire Mindanao on Wednesday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa weather specialist Nikos Peñaranda, the rain in Eastern Luzon is due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as the “amihan.”
“Dito naman sa area ng Eastern Visayas particularly sa Samar dahil po sa shear line nakikita natin na merong pagulan,” said Peñaranda.
(Rain is also expected here in the Eastern Visayas area, particularly in Samar, because of the shear line.)
“Inaasahan naman po itong shear line dahil pahina po ng bahagya itong amihan, ang shear line ay unti unting aangat sa kabikulan kaya mananatili ang pagulan hanggang bukas,” he added.
(We are expecting this shear line to rise up slowly as the northeast monsoon weakens, it will gradually rise in the Bicol region so it will continue to rain until tomorrow.)
The rest of Luzon and Visayas, meanwhile, will have generally fairer weather but with chances of light rain.
Mindanao, on the other hand, will also experience increased likeliness of rain and overcast skies due to the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) located southeast of Mindanao
However, Peñarondo said the LPA is expected to be short-lived and not form into a storm.
