MANILA, Philippines — Saying the integrity of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) “is now in question,” Commissioner Rowena Guanzon has challenged Commissioner Aimee Ferolino—the ponente in the disqualification case against presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr.—to resign with her.
Guanzon made the remark on Monday as the infighting within the Comelec First Division, which is handling the three consolidated disqualification cases against Marcos Jr., continues.
“I challenge Comm Ferrolino, let us resign together before [February 3] since the integrity of the [Comelec] is now in question,” Guanzon said in a tweet.

Guanzon will retire as one of the poll body’s commissioners on February 2.
Over the weekend, Guanzon said she had given Ferolino until noon on Monday, January 31, to release the resolution by the Comelec First Division on the petition to disqualify Marcos Jr. from running in the May 9 presidential polls.
Guanzon has previously disclosed that her vote was to disqualify Marcos Jr. and that “political interference” was delaying the release of the resolution that was supposed to be written by Ferolino.

Ferolino, in response, has claimed that Guanzon is “imposing” her opinions on her.
Ferolino also called as “appalling” Guanzon’s decision to write a separate opinion on Marcos Jr.’s disqualification cases when the ponencia has not yet submitted the resolution.
