Cavite drug suspect killed in shootout with cops

LUCENA CITY – Police killed a drug suspect during a shootout following a buy-bust operation in Naic, Cavite before midnight Friday, police said Saturday.

Diego Flores died after he resisted arrest and engaged policemen in a shootout in Barangay (village) Timalan Concepcion at about 11:45 p.m., Cavite police chief  Colonel Arnold Abad said.

Police also reported that anti-illegal drug operatives arrested 33 drug suspects during the 24-hours operation on Friday.

The police confiscated 105 sachets of shabu (crystal meth), two sachets of dried marijuana leaves and drug-using paraphernalia.

The report did not specify the volume and street value of the seized illegal drugs.

The police also nabbed 14 wanted criminals – 11 illegal gamblers and five suspects for minor and major offenses.

The Cavite police accosted at least 3,528 persons, who were allegedly violating health and safety protocols against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) – not wearing face masks, not observing safe distancing or disregarded the curfew.
