Loren Legarda backs employment programs for displaced workers
MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Loren Legarda has expressed support for government programs aimed at providing job opportunities to Filipinos at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Deputy House Speaker said programs like Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (DOLE TUPAD) are a big booost to Pinoys who have lost their livelihood due to the pandemic.
“These challenging times have caused financial problems, especially to the marginalized sectors of our community. Many have lost their jobs, livelihood, and sources of income.” Legarda said in a statement.
“Having programs like the DOLE TUPAD will help cushion the effects of poverty in the country, as it provides employment program that can help people sustain their needs.”
TUPAD is DOLE’s package assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.
Article continues after this advertisementUnder TUPAD, workers may perform a task in their barangays by cleaning, repairing, or planting trees for 10-30 days.
