Active COVID-19 cases in Zambales jump to 4-month high

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales––At least 94 new cases of COVID-19 were logged on Sunday in this province, its highest single-day record in the last four months.

The latest data from the local task force showed that the new infections raised the number of active COVID-19 cases in the province to 369.

Due to the virus surge, only one of the eight intensive care unit beds and four of the 29 ward beds at the Allied Care Experts Medical Center – Baypointe, Inc. inside the Subic Bay Freeport remained vacant. The hospital is one of the five quarantine hospitals in the province.

Since 2020, Zambales has recorded 10,356 COVID-19 cases with 9,759 recoveries and 610 deaths.

The vaccination rollout in the province remained slow, with only 302,185 residents or 66.40-percent of the target population getting vaccinated fully against the viral disease.

To achieve herd immunity against COVID-19, the province has to vaccinate 454,730 residents out of its 649,615-population. INQ
