In a statement Monday, the NBI said that the chief of NBI-Security Management Section and his executive officer received information last Thursday, January 13, that Espinosa and two other PDLs were plotting to escape the detention facility through “the hole of the exhaust fan at the ceiling.”
Authorities inspected the jail on the same night the NBI received the information.
“In one of the cells of the jail, the raiding team of Agents observed a deformed exhaust fan, which, when [removed], exposed a hole fit for a detainee to escape,” the NBI said.
NBI officer in charge Director Eric Distor said that security measures in the jail had been tightened since the incident.
“In view of this incident, security measures at the jail has since been tightened with regular inspection of all jail facilities,” he shared.
Distor lauded his new chief and executive officer for intercepting the three detainees.
“As soon as they received the info, they immediately acted on it without delay,” he said.
