MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila on Sunday recorded its lowest temperature during the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season, the state weather bureau confirmed.
Metro Manila recorded a temperature of 19.7 degrees Celsius at the Science Garden in Quezon City, which is the lowest temperature this amihan season, Ana Clauren, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist, told INQUIRER.net over the phone.
Clauren said Metro Manila could still experience a temperature lower than 19.7 degrees Celsius as the “amihan” season may last until the second week of March.
Here are the top 10 lowest temperatures Pagasa recorded on Sunday:
1. Baguio City, Benguet (11.0°C)
2. Tanay, Rizal (18.0°C)
3. Casiguran, Aurora (18.6°C)
4. Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.6°C)
5. Malaybalay, Bukidnon (19.0°C)
6. Basco, Batanes (19.1°C)
7. San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (19.1°C)
8. Sinait, Ilocos Sur (19.5°C)
9. Science Garden, Quezon City (19.7°C)
10. Abucay, Bataan (19.8°C)
Metro Manila reported its lowest ever temperature on January 11,1914 at 14.5°C, according to Pagasa’s official website.
The country’s “amihan” season started in October. The “amihan” is a cool and dry northeast wind coming from Siberia and China that blows down to Southeast Asia.
