Rain to persist over parts of PH due to amihan, shear line – Pagasa

The northeast monsoon and the shear line will bring overcast skies and rain on Thursday in parts of Luzon and Mindanao, Eastern Visayas.

MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon and the shear line will bring overcast skies and rain on Thursday in parts of Luzon and Mindanao, as well as Eastern Visayas, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Bukas mararamdaman pa rin ang epekto ng amihan lalong lalo na sa mga lalawigan sa silangang bahagi ng Luzon, mula dito sa Batanes hanggang sa lalawigan ng Quezon, asahan na maulap may mga kalat kalat na pagulan,” said Pagasa senior weather specialist Chris Perez.

(Tomorrow we will still feel the effects of the northeast monsoon especially in the provinces in the eastern part of Luzon, from here in Batanes to the province of Quezon, expect clouds with scattered rains here.)

“Sa natitirang bahagi ng Luzon kasama na ang Metro Manila, maaliwalas ang panahon bukas kung magkakaroon man ng mahihinang pagulan dulot pa rin po ‘yan ng amihan,” he added.

(In the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, generally fair weather is expected with light rain due to the northeast monsoon.)

Meanwhile, Eastern Visayas as well as the Caraga and Davao region in Mindanao will also experience cloudy skies with widespread rain showers, due to the shear line.

Hot and humid weather, on the other hand, will persist in the rest of Visayas and Mindanao, but short-term isolated rain should still be expected.

Temperature range in key cities/areas according to Pagasa for Thursday:

  • Metro Manila: 23 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 12 to 20 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  20 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 20 to 28 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 24 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 20 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Due to the northeast monsoon, gale warning is still raised in the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Eastern Luzon.
