ZAMBOANGA CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR—A verbal tussle between two warring families in Barangay Linungan, Akbar town, Basilan ended in a shooting incident Tuesday, wounding a civilian, the police said.

Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan, said a shooting incident sparked by a rido between the families of Sukri Tahlim, a civilian volunteer, and Nurham Roy in the area wounded Ibrahim Saberani, who was brought to the Lamitan District Hospital.

“They were having heated arguments, so we dispatched members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPAT) in the area to pacify the two families,” Gobway said.

However, after their differences were settled, Roy went home, took his firearm, and started shooting the BPAT members stationed at the health center in Linungan. Saberani, who lived near the health center, was hit by a bullet but was now in stable condition, according to Gobway.
