Earlier, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) also announced that it will be closing its outpatient services starting Jan. 7 due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.

These announcements came amid a dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases in the country, especially in Metro Manila, which was placed under alert level 3 to curb the further spread of COVID-19.

On the same day, the Department of Health reported 5,434 new cases nationwide, of which 3,826 or 71 percent were from the National Capital Region.
