COVID positivity rate slows down in NCR; now at 28.7% – OCTA fellow

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) slowed down on Sunday at 28.7 percent, said OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said.
David said this could be due to fewer social gatherings leading up to the New Year revelry.
“The rapid increase in positivity rate in the NCR has slowed down, possibly due to a decrease in social and mass gatherings leading up to the New Year’s Eve,” said David through Twitter.
The current positivity rate is only slightly higher than the one recorded the previous day which was 28.03 percent.
“Due to lower testing output, this projects a decrease in new cases in the NCR on Jan. 3 to about 2,000 to 2,500, and 3,000 to 3,5000 new cases in the Philippines,” David further noted.
Metro Manila is currently classified as high-risk to COVID-19 transmission amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in the region, as well as the positivity rate and reproduction number.
Earlier, the Department of Health recorded 4,600 new COVID-19 cases nationwide, the highest since Oct. 24. In these cases, 4,584 or 99 percent were from Metro Manila.
Active cases now currently sit at 21,418.
