COVID-19 active cases in City of San Fernando, Pampanga jumps from 0 to 18

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – From zero active cases five days ago, the number of COVID-19 cases in San Fernando City rose to 18 on Saturday, January 1, data from the city health office showed.

The capital city was free of COVID-19 from December 22 to 27.

On December 28, it recorded two new COVID-19 cases – one in Bulaon village and another in Saguin village.

The next day, the city government registered four more cases in Del Rosario village and one in Quebiawan.

On December 30, five more cases were added to the list. These include two patients from Magliman village, two from Saguin and one from San Agustin.

After a day, four more cases were recorded – two in Del Pilar and one each in Malpitic and Sindalan.

On the first day of 2022, the city government registered another four new cases that included two residents of Del Rosario, one from San Agustin and another from Santa Teresita.

Several residents commented on the city government’s Facebook page that the rising number of cases was due to gatherings and some people’s failure to follow basic health protocols like wearing of face masks.

“People have become complacent. In malls, public transport, public market and bazaars,” a netizen said.

“Some think that they can now do what they want because they are fully vaccinated,” another resident commented.

The capital city registered no new recoveries and deaths on Saturday.

Since the pandemic broke out in 2020, it has recorded a total of 11,302 COVID-19 cases , including 10,956 recoveries and 328 deaths.
