Octogenarian pedestrian, motorcyclist dead in Batangas road mishaps

LUCENA CITY – A female octogenarian and a motorcycle rider died in two separate road accidents in Tingloy and Mabini towns in Batangas province on Saturday, report said Sunday.

Mabini police reported that Maria Isla, 80, was accidentally hit by a motorcycle driven by Paul John Gonda while crossing the road in Barangay (village) Saguing around 6 p.m.

The old woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to Bauan Doctors General Hospital. She died two hours later while undergoing treatment.

The motorcycle rider was detained at the police jail and will be facing corresponding criminal charges.

In Tingloy, Noel Belen, 52, while traveling aboard his motorcycle accidentally slid on the concrete pavement in Barangay Papaya at 5:30 p.m.

Belen was taken to Tingloy Rural Health Unit but died along the way due to his injuries.

The report did not state whether or not the fatality was wearing a crash helmet.
