MANILA, Philippines — Some of the customers and employees of Kampai, a bar in Barangay Poblacion in Makati that was visited by a COVID-positive woman who skipped quarantine, tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a statement posted on Facebook on Friday by the bar management.
The woman arrived at the bar at around 10 p.m. on Dec. 23 and stayed until around 1 a.m.
“It is unfortunate that this transpired in our premises, and has resulted in compromising the health and safety of our customers and our staff. A number of our patrons and staff contracted the virus and are now in quarantine because of the situation,” the bar management said.
It explained that the woman was allowed entry since the group she was with had a reservation.
The traveler showed proof of vaccination, filled out a health declaration form, and even had her temperature taken before she was allowed to enter.
“We had absolutely no idea that she came from abroad and she was supposed to be under strict isolation in an approved quarantine facility,” it added.
The management assured that it was already cooperating with the authorities.
This announcement came after Kampai earlier released a statement assuring that it has closed its establishment for disinfection and testing.
On the other hand, Mijo, a restaurant the quarantine violator visited, stated that all of its staff had already tested negative for the virus.
On Thursday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año advised, in an interview over ABS-CBN’s “Teleradyo,” that those who were in these two establishments on Dec. 23 should get tested and isolate themselves immediately.
The quarantine violator skipped quarantine protocols after arriving in the country from the United States on Dec. 22. She then went out of her quarantine hotel to meet up with friends in Barangay Poblacion, a place popular for its bars and restaurants, in Makati.
