INC crowd swells to 100,000 for evangelical mission at Quirino Grandstand
MANILA, Philippines – Some 100,000 members of the Iglesia ni Cristo are now gathered at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila for their grand evangelical mission Tuesday, a spokesman for the Philippine National Police said.
They started arriving as early as 11 a.m. for the 5 p.m. event, Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said.
Five hundred police officers from the National Capital Region Police Office and Manila Police District were deployed before dawn Tuesday to maintain security around the Quirino Grandstand.
While the crowd is expected to grow to up to two million, Cruz said that the PNP has not made any recommendations to jam mobile signals as part of Tuesday’s security measure since “no threat to security was received prior the event.
Nonetheless, “enough” security officers were put on standby for possible need for augmentation.
Cruz said the situation at the Quirino Grandstand has been “peaceful”.
