MANILA, Philippines — Children who experienced the fury of Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai), which brought widespread destruction in many provinces including Cabalian town in Southern Leyte stood by the roadside as they call for help from passing motorists.
Typhoon victims – adults and children – appealed for assistance by raising placards with a message that reads: “Maam/sir kunting tulong lang po” which translates to “Ma’am/Sir, just a little help please.”
When aid from a private group arrived, the children ran to get their much-needed assistance.
At 4:50 p.m. on December 16, Odette made its third landfall in Liloan, Southern Leyte as it packed maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 270 kph.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of calamity in areas ravaged by Odette, particularly, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
Southern Leyte is located in Eastern Visayas.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s latest report, 258 people were killed by Odette, the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year.
