NCR's new COVID cases nearly doubled on Dec 22 but still below 100 – OCTA Research

MANILA, Philippines — New COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila nearly doubled on Wednesday, December 22, but remained below 100, OCTA Research said Thursday, citing data from the Department of Health (DOH).

Based on the list shared by OCTA Research fellow Guido David, Metro Manila logged 80 fresh coronavirus infections on Wednesday, nearly doubling the 47 new cases recorded on Tuesday, December 21.

This was followed by Zamboanga del Sur (12 new cases), Rizal (11 new cases), Pangasinan (11 new cases), Cavite (9 new cases), Negros Occidental (7 new cases), Bulacan (7 new cases), Isabela (7 new cases), and Laguna (7 new cases).

South Cotabato, Davao Del Sur, Iloilo, and Davao De Oro recorded six new COVID-19 cases each while La Union and Tarlac logged five new infections each.

Meanwhile, in terms of individual local government units (LGUs), the City of Manila had the most number of new COVID-19 cases on December 22 at 17, followed by Quezon City at 16.

Zamboanga City recorded 12 new infections while the City of Pasig had 8 new cases.

The cities of Caloocan, Parañaque, Malabon, and Tagui all posted five new infections each.

The Philippines on Wednesday registered 261 new coronavirus cases and 122 additional fatalities. The DOH said that with the fresh infections, the overall case count rose to 2,837,784.
