Patriots escape cobras

THE AIRASIA Philippine Patriots had import Anthony Johnson to thank for yet another win as they eked past the Bangkok Cobras, 80-72, in the AirAsia Asean Basketball League late Sunday evening at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Johnson scored 26 points and added 13 points and six boards to his name as the Patriots pushed their record to a league-best 7-1 (win-loss).

Johnson’s performance offset the sub-par outing of the Patriots’ other reinforcement Nakiea Miller, who had just nine points. Though he struggled offensively, Miller, the reigning Best Import of the league, had five rebounds and four blocks.

Johnson also got another solid performances from two locals – Cebuano Ardy Larong and  Warren Ybanez. Ybanez had 10 points and five assists while Larong, a former standout of the University of San Jose-Recoletos, chipped in 13 points after a one-game suspension. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
