MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) denying the accreditation of two party-list groups to participate in the May 2022 elections.
In two separate orders, the high court issued restraining orders in favor of Igorot Warriors International, Inc. (IWI) and Alliance for Resilience, Sustainability and Empowerment (ARISE).
The SC said Comelec is enjoined “from enforcing its assailed order and resolution” that rejected the accreditation of the two party-list groups as the poll body was asked to submit its comment within a non-extendible period of 10 days to the high court’s TRO.
The SC is also expected to issue a separate ruling for Ang Tinig ng Senior Citizens, which participation to next year’s national elections was also refused by the Comelec.
