Over 90 party-list groups appealing denied registration with Comelec

Over 90 party-list groups are appealing their denied registration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to join the 2022 polls.

MANILA, Philippines — Over 90 party-list groups are appealing their denied registration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to join the 2022 polls.

A list from Comelec issued on Monday showed that 97 groups, including Nurses United party-list, have pending motions for reconsideration.

Maristela Abenojar, president of both the Filipino Nurses United group and the Nurses United party-list, earlier said nurses should have a voice in Congress since over 10,000 of the 28,103 health workers who contracted COVID-19 belong to the profession. Groups from the business processing outsourcing (BPO) sector, educators as well as those advocating for the environment and against women and children violence are also among those with pending appeals.

Five groups, meanwhile, are still awaiting resolution on the petitions they filed to be registered with Comelec.

Among them is the Mothers for Change party-list, which is headed by Mocha Uson. Among its nominees is volleyball star and beauty queen Michele Gumabao.

The petition of Malasakit Movement party list, whose first nominee is former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority spokesperson Celine Pialago, is also still pending.

Meanwhile, 139 groups are included in Comelec’s updated list of registered party-lists, some of which are previously-registered while others are newly-registered.
